Device ID is a feature in Jarrison Time used to auto-generate unique ID values for employees, rather than using employee numbers. This generated numeric value is then passed to devices, if Jarrison Time is directly controlling devices, or is used as the linking field when importing from an access control system.
Some biometric devices and access control systems cannot contain an alphanumeric ID in the employee number. If employee numbers have already been issued from payroll and contain alphanumeric characters, it won’t be possible to use the employee number as is.
Using Device ID will allow a system to have alphanumeric employee numbers in JT, enabling Third-Party integration with alphanumeric employee numbers, while hardware uses the Device ID. When a person clocks, they’ll see the Device ID value, not their payroll number.
Note that when setting up a mixed system (assorted readers that accept alphanumeric and numeric-only), all employees must be sent to all devices to ensure the correct profile number will be used.
The below steps cover implementing Device ID. The process follows steps to prevent further clocking on old numbers, importing last clockings on old numbers, change to Device ID, distribute Device ID to all devices.
Before implementing any changes, if Jarrison Time is controlling hardware and there are many devices in use or more than 100 employees, consider timing this change so it doesn’t cause disruption to clocking activity. The amount of time needed to complete the operation depends on how many devices and people in total will be affected, and network speed. Note that all devices should be online before commencing.
1) From Setup > System Configuration > Engine tab, select Show Advanced Options and click the Refresh button.

2) From Access > Devices, right-click on the first device in the list and select Delete & Recreate Database. This is to prevent anyone clocking before all steps have been completed.
Please note if you have more than one device this step needs to be done on each device.

3) Click Yes for the prompt that appears.

4) To confirm employees have been deleted from the device(s), right click on the device(s) in the list and
select Device Information. There should be 0 employees on device.

5) After deleting and recreating the device database, all clockings need to be imported from your device(s),
before sending all employees back on to the device(s) with their unique Device IDs in place of their old
numbers.
In Jarrison Time go to Import > Clockings, then click on the Import button to import clockings.

9) After importing is complete, stop the JT Engine service. Ensure a full working backup of the system is made.

10) From Setup > System Configuration > Hardware tab, check the box next to Use Device ID, a
window will appear confirming if you want to do this, click on Yes. A unique ID will be automatically
generated and assigned to each employee. The Device ID field will appear in Employee Details, and can be added as a column in reports.
(Ensure all clockings have successfully been imported from your device(s) before executing this step.)

11) Start the JT Engine, and the distribution of Device IDs to devices can proceed.
12) From Access > Devices, right click on the first device and select Send All Employees (One by One).

Once you’ve clicked on Send All Employees (One by One) a message will appear
asking if you are sure you want to clear the reader and start sending everyone to the device. Click on Yes

13) From Access > Show Queue, all the entries that will take place can be viewed. The Device Action Monitor (from Access > Device Action Monitor ) can be concurrently viewed to see devices processing.

The Device ID value of an employee can be checked from Employee Details.
